MIC Brussels Boostcamp will start with the 3-day Kick-off session. This is where you will crash-test your ideas, review the very fundamentals of your business, find out about sources of funding available from the government, discover more about technological choices available to you, and learn entrepreneur’s most fundamental skill: pitching.
The purpose of the session is also to introduce you to the interactive, collaborative workshop format that is the unique DNA of Boostcamp. And of course you will meet your potential co-Boostcampers and outstanding coaches that will support you throughout the Boostcamp process.
Now, a few more words about whom you’ll meet and what you’ll do during the Kick-off.
Business model is the foundation of your business. It is the first session of the Kick-off, and you will work with the Business Model Canvas – an excellent tool that you will discover on October 26. We’ve actually dedicated a separate blog post to the Canvas – yes, it’s quite something – which you can find here.
Serge Kalitventzeff will on October 27 give a session on administrative, Financial and legal aspects in the launch of a company, on governmental funding as well as on the importance of making a Business Plan. Serge heads up the ICT business unit at the Brussels Enterprise Agency; he has been supporting ICT startups for the past 15 years through a variety of roles in public organizations.
After this session, we’ll talk about business and financial plans – their respective contents and their importance for your business. We’ll also have our first Peer Learning session which will help you to get to know your fellow Boostcamp participants and to have an in-depth look at other starting businesses.
David Hernie, IT Evangelist at Microsoft Belux, will lead a session on IT architecture on October 28. For well over 15 years David has worked in a variety of technical roles, predominantly in the mobile space. He started as a system engineer and worked his way up to CTO of Vision IT Group Mobility before joining Microsoft in 2009.
In the afternoon on Day 3 (28th of October), you will be invited, under the coaching of Ben Piquard, Director of the MICs in Belgium and Leo Exter coach for the MIC Brussels Boostcamp, to a pitching session where you will work on public speaking, response to the camera, voice and other aspects of presentation.
Want to know more ? Have a look this video (in French): an introduction by Ben Piquard, a quick word by David Hernie and Pierre De Greef – and of course the testimonials of previous participants to the MIC Boostcamp organized in Wallonia (Mons) in 2010-2011.
