FeasyMotion is a spin-off project of the “Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB)” and “Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB)”.
In February 2013, Philippe was working in the technology transfer office of the ULB when he met Serge Van Sint Jan, professor of Anatomy, Biomechanics and Organogenesis lab of the Faculty of Medicine of the VUB and Bart Jansen, Professor at ETRO (Electronic department of the VUB). Since 2011, Serge, Bart and four researchers from academic laboratories have been working on the development of an ICT platform to help cerebral palsy children during their physiotherapy. It was a new paradigm: not only serious games but a complete platform with a reporting system based on advanced biomechanics: patients perform motivating and adapted mini-games while the therapist collects and analyzes clinically relevant data.
The prototype developed during the project has been tested in 5 rehabilitation centers in Belgium. In addition, other centers and physiotherapists are interested. We soon realized that this new solution could benefit to a broader public: globally traditional physical therapy is often long and repetitive and therapists in general lack tools to assess and follow the patient’s condition.
After some discussion it became clear that if we want to offer this new tool to more therapists and patients, we will need to have new resources and a dedicated team. At that time FeasyMotion project was born. Since then, we have benefited from advices & coaching from incubators and partners (MIC Brussels, impulse) to refine our business model, answered numerous technological, regulatory and legal questions. For instance the Microsoft Innovation Center Brussels helped us to organize an Appathon where 9 teams of developers developed new games for our platform. That was really great!
Now we are on the way to create the company and we look forward to have FeasyMotion platform available in 2015!
Our advice to entrepreneurs:
- Get as much feedback as you can
- … but don’t believe everybody (a lot of people will have objections, doubts, negative reactions…)
- Keep having fun
And I would like to say something about the urgency…. We always have the feeling that everything must be done right away but as Boileau said, we must hasten slowly and do not be discouraged…
