In case of a Stroke, it is crucial to diagnose & start treating the patient as fast as possible. Starting from this concept the VUB together with the UZ Brussels started their research to bring the patient in contact with a Stroke expert already during the transport in the ambulance.
This is how, after 4 years of research financed by Innoviris, we created our company called Zebra Academy. We are 5 founders who hold different backgrounds covering Medical, Clinical, Innovation & ICT knowledge among others.
The Vision we have for our young company, created begin of 2015 is to bring innovative telemedicine solutions to the market backed up with strong research & user feedback for Pre-, In- & Post-hospital diagnose & follow-up of patients suffering from a disease.
This great goal, we have in mind, was defined by pitching our ideas to external parties & using the feedback received in order to refine further for the next opportunity to pitch.
MIC boostcamp has been a wonderful opportunity for that purpose by getting us in touch with contacts from Healthcare, Entrepreneurship, Investors, … backgrounds. If there is one advice to give to other Start-ups, it’s to go out there with your pitch and your great goals & get those challenged as much as possible.
Today, Zebra Academy services telemedicine stroke care to hospitals with Pre- & In-hospital telecommunication devices, workflows and the ability to triage patients optimally while research is currently ongoing in UZ Brussels & will be started in 2 other hospitals before the end of the year.
End of 2014, we were awarded a European grant from Fiware which allows needed IT developments on our web platform and lately we also have been selected by Trends as one of the 50 Belgian Start-ups in which to invest. It is great to see the Momentum is there and we “just” have to catch it.
More is coming but we cannot tell yet.
